7 September - Training session on negociation
"A great relief this morning: the sea was calm, the wind had lessened considerably and we all had a good sleep. The sea sickness of most of the people had disappeared and we could look forward on a sunny day. Also the Captain and the crew were relieved as before they were quite concerned about the timetable and our arrival in Istanbul, since we couldn't move fast because of the wind.
After a good breakfast we started our first training session on the question of conflict: we discussed the relevance of conflict to human nature and the aspect of feelings and emotions in conflicts. A nice break was the stopover at one of the Greek islands, Hios, when we anchored at a bay and went over to the beach with the ship's small boat. It was a beautiful beach at a small village surrounded by mountains, where we stayed for about two hours. The sad thing however was that Thannassis had to leave us here for personal reasons. We all hope to see him again in Istanbul.
The we took off and began the afternoon session about conflict management, especially on negotiations. We played a rolegame taking the role of negotiators defending their specific interests in designing an island. In the night then we finished with a hot debate over christian minorities in Islam countries."
