23 August - Arrival in Ashdod
"It probably was the hottest day of the month. It was really not easy to work during the day, especially after night watches when people are tired and maybe even seasick. But we also started to feel the strength of the group and that everybody helped each other, despite the cultural differences and origins.
We forgot yesterday to introduce our watch system on board, so we will repeat it now: We are divided into four watches, that take over in a special system of changing tasks all what needs to be done to keep the boat running: help in the kitchen, navigation, watching the sea, cleaning, etc. At any time there is always at least one watch on duty, also throughout the night.
We also forgot to introduce the crew of the Black Knight: The captain Waldeck of course, then 4 watchmates, two mechanics, and Robert and Marcin, the cook and cook helper, who makes us forget the five-forks-restaurants, meaning he is really good. We even have fresh vegetables and salads and fruits, something that we did not believe to have before.
The training programme today consisted of an intercultural game and discussion about intercultural conflicts.
At 14h we arrived in the harbour of Ashdod in Israel, where Richard was waiting for us to give us the latest news on our trip to Gaza. It appeared that the negotiations still continued. So we received a nice surprise to hear that because we had to wait one more day for the decision we could go to Jerusalem tomorrow.
Unfortunately we had to stay in the business harbour which was not very nice to be in. We could not leave the harbour and the only thing we had there was a duty free shop. But we enjoyed."

Navigation is part of the nice routines on board. The steering position required good concentration on the compass and steady hands, but on the other hand it rewarded you with the feeling of manouvering our 300 tons magnificent boat. Irini (Soma Hellinon Proskopon, Greece) stands at the helm, while other Peace Sailors takes care of watching and operating the sails.
