22 August - First sunset on the sea

"The first morning on board. The days before we all had been afraid of seasickness, but luckily the sea has been calm during the night and everything went well.

We entered the routine of the ship. During the night some people already have been active in the night watches and were quite tired. Then the weather really was too hot, maybe around 40 degrees, but we nevertheless started the training sessions with enthusiasm, since this is what we came for.

The training started with sessions on exchange of values and beliefs in different cultures and perceptions of cultures.

Before lunch-time we discovered that meal watch is the hardest task on the boat, having to prepare and clean in the heat. After lunch, during the navigation watch, people began to feel bad and felt seasickness coming up. By the end of the afternoon even more joined the club. But apart from that we did not have many more problems; things went well.

It was a first highlight to see the sun going down in the sea and the stars coming up at night."

An astonishing experience: our first clear sunset after two days of navigation, somewhere between Larnaca and Ashdod. When the sun disappeared we all spontaneously clapped. The feeling of Peace was patent.
